What happens to the RUBBISH?

After seeing the rubbish collectors last week at Changi Beach the children started wondering, "What happens to the rubbish after it is collected?" With a little help from Mrs. Wark, we found out that Singapore's waste is taken out to sea where it is dumped into an offshore landfill.

Then we started to wonder, "How much of the rubbish that goes out to the offshore landfill comes from our classroom?" So we removed the trash cans from the classroom on Friday and kept all our rubbish from the day in the middle of our classroom floor.

WOW, that was a lot of RUBBISH from just one day!

We decided to try sorting out our trash to see if we could save some of it from going to the landfill. We added bits to the compost bin - apple cores and strawberry tops, other bits to the recycling bins. We also saved some trash to use in an art project.
