Exploration Time

I am sure you have heard that one of the most valuable and reliable learning experiences children can have is time for unstructured play. In DPa we try to build in that time and we call it... Exploration. This time gives the children an opportunity to develop social skills, self-discovery and an opportunity to express themselves. The pictures below show some of the work the children engaged in during a recent Exploration time. There was a puppet show that was written, organized and performed by a group of students. In another area of the room, one student shared with others what she had learned about using chalk on black paper. Others role played with a set of kitchen equipment. Other chose to play a math game. In every corner of the room, children were communicating and cooperating as they worked.
